From the Department of . . .

Useful Idiots: Republican Congressman Dana Rohrbacher has stated that if the two Border Patrol agents that were sent to prison a while back are killed while there, then President Bush should be impeached. Isn’t that just great. Democrats want to impeach him for the war in Iraq, Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib, “domestic” wiretapping, and the list goes on and one, and now comes some Republican who wants to impeach him for the criminal act of another. Just what is it in Washington that makes people say such astonishingly stupid things?

The Painfully Obvious: The Washington Times recently stated that there is no GOP standout for 2008. This is news?

Hypocrisy: All the while she is negotiating just what kind of plane will carry her august personage back and forth to D.C., Nancy Pelosi has stated that America has to cut its greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2050 and that mandatory restrictions are the only way to do it. That’s a no-brainer. Pick the plane with the hybrid engine, or maybe the one that runs on nuclear power or ethanol. We have those, right?

Global(oney) Warming: Much of America remains in a deep freeze. Roads, schools, and businesses are closed. Pipes are bursting everywhere. Northern Michigan is experiencing some of it’s coldest weather in 100 years. And in Sweden, the reindeer are starving to death because thick ice is preventing them from getting to their food source.

All is not lost, however, as two welcome blasts of hot air came from recent Nobel Prize nominee Al Gore and Ted Turner who said, respectively: “Never before has all of civilization been threatened. We have everything we need to save it, with the possible exception of political will. But political will is a renewable resource.” And, “What we need is a moratorium on all new coal plants, on all new carbon-producing energy power technologies, and work on replacing them with renewable alternatives. The biggest danger is we won’t do enough soon enough.”

Here’s a little truism that isn’t getting much play in the press: all those espousing all the things we need to do to solve global warming will go along only until such time as the things that need doing affect them. Let’s see how Mr. Turner really feels about global warming when it starts to cut into his finances.

Big Heads on the Bench: U.S. District Court Judge Oliver Wanger sentenced a Fresno attorney to six months in prison for forging the signatures of two judges, saying: “What is more serious than forging the signature of a judge?” Let’s see, there’s murder, rape, child molestation, assault with a deadly weapon.  Shall I continue?

Are You Kidding Me: The Washington Defense of Marriage Alliance (the state, not the district) has filed Initiative 957, which would require that marriage be limited to men and women who are able to have children. Couples would have to prove that they can have children in order to get a marriage license. If they do not have children within three years, their marriage would be subject to annulment. All other marriages would be defined as “unrecognized” and people in those marriages would not be eligible for marriage benefits. Apparently, this is a jab at conservatives. What isn’t these days.
