John Edwards hired some bloggers that have ruffled some feathers. Rather than fire them, candidate blow-dry had this to say: “It’s not how I talk to people, and it’s not how I expect the people who work for me to talk to people. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that kind of intolerant language will not be permitted from anyone on my campaign, whether it’s intended as satire, humor, or anything else. But I also believe in giving everyone a fair shake. I’ve talked to Amanda and Melissa; they have both assured me that it was never their intention to malign anyone’s faith, and I take them at their word.”
Is he serious? Firstly, Melissa referred to Christian conservatives as the “wingnut Christofascist base” of President Bush. If her intention was not to malign, what was it?
Secondly, is this any indication of how he would handle Iran? “Now Mr. Ahmadinejad, I’m going to give you a fair shake and say I know it was not your intention to drop that nuclear bomb in New York. I know it was never your intention to cause any harm.”
For crying out loud. If he can’t stand up to one of his staffers, how on earth is he going to stand up to someone trying to destroy us?

Barack Obama really stepped in it when he said that the war in Iraq has caused the lives of over 3,000 of the bravest young Americans to be “wasted.” He immediately began to backpedal and say that he was upset with himself for this comment and that “their sacrifices are never wasted.” What he really meant to say was that “those sacrifices have not been honored by the same attention to strategy, diplomacy and honesty on the part of civilian leadership that would give them a clear mission.” What?
Here’s the truth, Mr. Obama. If a democrat wins in 2008 and simply pulls our troops out of Iraq and leaves that country to its fate, then every single person who died will have died in vain and their sacrifice will have been wasted by a politician whose highest priority is his/her standing in the polls.
It was the democrats who got us into Vietnam. It was the democrats who turned the American people against the war there. It was the democrats who cut off funding for the troops and left millions to be slaughtered. It was the democrats who made every death in Vietnam count for nothing.
And they want to do it again because they don’t give a rip about dead soldiers, that’s just the pretty words they use to cover themselves. “Over 3,000 of America’s finest have died. We must end this war now” sounds so much better than “The war’s not polling well, and I’m bored. Time for something else.”
