No one drinks from the well of American freedom more deeply than those in the entertainment industry. No one smacks their lips more loudly, either. They are the first to claim that freedom of speech covers everything they say and do. And, they are the first to claim that us little people are abusing our freedom of speech when we say that we don't like what they say and do. Remember the Dixie Chicks? But, that's how it is with the Left.
Brian De Palma has made a very comfortable living from the millions he has earned exercising that right to freedom of speech. It is more than unfortunate that he has now used that right to glorify an ugly incident from the American presence in Iraq.
If Mr. De Palma was looking to make a movie about the ugliness and brutality of war, he needn't have looked farther than the events of 9/11 or the beheading of Nicholas Berg by the vile waste of humanity that was Zarqawi.
Obviously, he wasn't looking for just ugly and brutal, he was looking for American ugly and brutal. He stuck his thumb in Uncle Sam's eye and said, "What are you going to do about it?".
Hopefully, those of us in America who love our country and want it to continue as a beacon of freedom to the rest of the world will take a pass on this movie. We'll save our hard-earned dollars for something more uplifting, rather them putting them into the hands of just another Leftist who is "full of sound and fury signifying nothing."
If Mr. De Palma was a filmmaker in Iran, he could have never made such a movie. And if he had, he wouldn't live long enough to enjoy it. Maybe Mr. De Palma should take some of his downtime to consider that.
