Last night on the Fox News channel I saw Hillary Clinton's latest ad. Continuing her theme that she's the most experienced and the only one ready to take charge on "Day One," the voiceover said that she had been "tested." The clear and obvious intent of this is to connote to viewers that, somehow, she is battled tested and ready to be President of the United States, Commander in Chief, Leader of the Free World. What has she been drinking?
This woman's only elective office is senator. She has no executive experience. She's never had to make the decisions that could mean life or death. If she got woken up in the middle of the night by a call on the "red phone," it was because she was sleeping with the Governor or the President. The call was never for her. The only experience she has had in actually being in charge of something was the healthcare task force during her husband's administration. This one and only foray into actual leadership was an unmitigated failure.
I surely can't be the first one to tell her that being an enabler for a philandering husband does not qualify her as "tested" and ready for the Oval Office. Nor is she qualified because her husband held those offices. She just has a closer view than most of us.
Here's a newsflash. She is neither ready nor prepared to be President of the United States, neither is Barack Obama nor John McCain. The only people who are are the people who have already been there and know what it's like. And, quite frankly, I have my doubts about a couple of them.
