Regarding the Edwards/Hunter affair, this is apparently the time line: he met her, had an affair, ended the affair, and told his wife and family all about it in 2006. He launched his campaign for President in January 2007 and ended it in January 2008.
If this is the case, then I'm not going to cut Mrs. Edwards any slack. If she knew about the affair, then she was an integral part of the fraud that was being perpetuated on the American public. They weren't the lovey-dovey, happy couple they pretended to be. They were two people finding their way again after a terrible betrayal by someone whose ego could qualify as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
Remember, Mrs. Edwards said she was trying to lose weight so she could get back into her wedding dress so they could repeat their vows on their 30th anniversary. And all the while they were sitting on this explosive secret and hoping against hope that it would never come out.
Timing is everything. What if the Edwards had announced her cancer in 2004? We could very well be looking at Kerry/Edwards running for re-election. And, since Edwards would be Vice-President, the affair with Ms. Hunter would not likely have taken place. But, they kept it quiet.
The MSM might have thought that by breaking the Hunter/Edwards story now, it will be dead and buried by the democrat convention. Maybe, maybe not. But if it's still alive and kicking, is giving the former philanderer-on-chief and his ever-enabling spouse prime speaking slots really a good idea?
Of course, that's just me, and I still believe in shame. The democrats, the Clintons famously and foremost among them, do not.
