Pastor Rick Warren for being a coward.
Then: "We support Proposition 8, and if you believe what the Bible says about marriage, you need to support Proposition 8."
Now: "During the whole Proposition 8 thing, I never once went to a meeting, never once issued a statement, never -- never once gave an endorsement in the two years Prop. 8 was going."
Those men of the cloth who will not forcefully, unequivocally, and without fear espouse, support, advocate, and preach the word of God as set forth in the Bible; those who will not stand up to any and all cricitism that comes their way, no longer deserve the title of honor they hold. They should no longer be called pastor, reverend, or minister, and their establishments should no longer be called churches. Their tax-exempt status should be taken away from them.
Mr. Warren is by no means alone. The Bible is replete with examples of those who stumbled along the way. Moses committed murder, but God chose him to lead His people out of Egypt. David, the only person for whom it is said, he was a man after God's own heart, failed spectacularly. But God used him and chose him as the ancestor of Jesus. Peter, the rock upon whom Christ would build His church, denied Christ in His hour of need. But God used him, and today the Pope is considered the heir of St. Peter.
I, for one, am returning to Mr. Warren my copy of his book, The Purpose Driven Life, and I would urge all of you to do the same thing. The address is: 1 Saddleback Parkway, Lake Forest, California 92630. If enough people do this, perhaps Mr. Warren will realize that there are more important things than being popular.
Perhaps he'll realize that the criticism he may receive here on this earth for holding firm to his principles will be as nothing compared to what he receives on Judgment Day if he does not.
