It was only a few posts ago that I stated that it was my belief that Obama plans on never leaving the White House. There are those who will pooh-pooh me. There are those who will call me a paranoid nut. There are those who will believe me.
On January 6, 2009, Rep. Jose Serrano (D-NY) introduced H.J. Res. 5, which would repeal the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution. The 22nd Amendment is the one that limits the number of terms a president can serve. So far, this bill has no co-sponsors and has been refered to the House Judiciary Committe and the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties.
The bad news is, sitting on these committees are some of the most militant, unpleasant, obnoxious individuals to ever (dis)serve this country: John Conyers (D-MI), Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX), Maxine Waters, (D-CA), Robert Wexler (D-FL), Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), and Zoe Lofgren (D-CA).
The good news is, congress alone cannot amend the constitution. Any constitutional amendment must pass both houses by two-thirds and then be sent out to the states, where three-fourths of the states must agree to it.
The bad news is, congress can change this from three-fourths of the states to conventions in three-fourths of the states. Do you really think that the Left would hesitate a microsecond before packing the conventions with like-minded individuals?
