Stuck on Stupid

Stupidity has often been defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.  During the years of the feckless, reckless Bill Clinton, America was attacked again and again.  As was to be expected from an administration of lawyers, the response was always to put the bad guys on trial.  That would show them.

The most important job of the President of the United States is to keep us safe.  Bill Clinton's dereliction of duty in this regard culminated in the attacks of 9/11.  That showed what the terrorists thought of our justice system.

Now, the current administration is going down the same path.  One of the detainees from Gitmo - Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, a Tanzanian national - is facing 286 separate counts stemming from his alleged role as a bomb builder in the August 7, 1998, bombing of the embassies in Tanzania and Kenya, in which 224 people - 12 of which were Americans - were killed.

This is what the witless wonder in charge of the Justice Department had to say:  "The Justice Department has a long history of securely detaining and successfully prosecuting terror suspects through the criminal justice system, and we will bring that experience to bear in seeking justice in this case."

Certain rules of discovery apply in criminal proceedings.  We have no way of knowing what information is going to be released to Mr. Ghailani and his attorney.  And, it is important to remember that the attorney for another tried and convicted terrorist passed on such information to her client's associates.  There is absolutely no way to prevent this from happening again and again and again.

Terrorists all over the world are laughing at America.  They use our system against us.  They use our goodness against us.  And we just keep doing it over and over again.

Meanwhile somewhere in Washington, D.C., the Narcissist-in-Chief is dreamily mooning at the man in the mirror or reading his fawning press clippings, completely and utterly unaware that there is something beyond these two things.
