A job application for the City of Bozeman asks all applicants: "Please list any and all current personal or business web sites, web pages or memberships on any internet-based chat rooms, social clubs or forums, to include, but not limited to: Facebook, Google, Yahoo, YouTube.com, MySpace, etc.".
As if that wasn't going way too far already, the City is now asking applicants to provide it with their user names and passwords.
The Bozeman City Attorney is now looking into changing the policy so that the City could view an applicant's social networking sites without asking for login information, saying that one option would be to list the City as a "friend" on such sites as Facebook.
You have so got to be kidding me. The big Lie the City is peddling is that this information would only be used to verify application information - sure it would - and there is no penalty for not providing this information - sure there's not.
My gosh. Is there no limit to what the State thinks it can do? Perhaps the City should place cameras and listening devices in their employees' homes just so they can keep an eye on things.
Is this America or Amerika?
