Those of us who have blogs and write columns and post comments to the blogs and columns of others, open ourselves up to criticism. We do so because we enjoy the free exchange of ideas. I thoroughly enjoy reading the comments of others because in doing so I learn what is going on out there.
In response to drpete, I would like to say that he is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! Society has an absolute right to make laws for the good of all concerned. We are a better people because we make laws against animal cruelty, even though we are a worse people because we sanction the killing of babies. Just as we cannot shout "fire" in a crowded room, we do not have the unlimited "right" to do whatever we want with our own property.
Michael Vick would be a despicable individual even if there were no laws against animal cruelty. And, my readers will note, that I didn't say one word in my blog about the punishment he received. That subject was brought up by drpete.
There is something sick and twisted about those who are cruel not only for their own enjoyment but, worse yet, make money doing it. I'm all for second chances. But, Mr. Vick deserves nothing more than ignominy and obscurity. He should not be allowed to be in a position where some impressionable kid could look up to him.
Drpete, I disagree with you. That doesn't mean that I am wrong.
