Dictators in DC

Well, it's official.  Government of the people, by the people, for the people is dead.

Article I, Section 8,  of the Constitution states that congress has the power to, among other things, ". . . provide for the . . . general welfare of the United States."

Steny Hoyer (D-MD), number 2 (how appropriate) in the House, thinks that this gives congress the right to require Americans to buy health insurance (a feature of every health care "reform" bill currently percolating in congress) because: "Well, in promoting the general welfare, the Constitution obviously gives broad authority to Congress to effect that end.  The end that we're trying to effect is to make health care affordable, so I think clearly this is within our constitutional responsibility."

When asked if there was any limit to what congress could or couldn't force Americans to purchase, he said:  "I'm sure the [Supreme] Court will find a limit."

In other words, Mr. Hoyer is of the opinion that congress can do whatever it wants, whenever it wants, until such time as a co-equal branch of the government tells it it can't.

Government by legislative fiat by those whose egos will always far (far, far) outweigh their abilities is not what our Founding Fathers and members of every succeeding generation have fought and died for.

Mr. Hoyer's statement are completely and utterly disgraceful.
