I, like millions of others, believed that the events of 9/11 were terrorist attacks and acts of war. I have just learned that I was wrong.
On May 21, 2009, Obama gave a speach wherein he stated that America will "try those who have violated American criminal laws in federal courts", while those "who violate the laws of war" will be tried in military commissions.
Therefore, neither Khalid Sheikh Mohammad nor Osama bin Laden committed a terrorist attack or an act of war. They simply committed crimes. Heck, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D) says there's no need to even interrogate Osama. Of course there's not. Why on earth would we ever want to learn more about what our enemy has in store for us.
Sen. Richard Durbin (D) thinks "it's a dream come true" for the detainees at Gitmo to come live in Illinois. It's no longer an act of war to deliberately target civilians. So, come on out of your cave, Osama. Turn yourself in. Join your friends in the heartland of America. Come live Mr. Durbin's dream.
