Article I, Section 7 of the Constitution provides as follows:
All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills. (Emphasis added)
I have just read that Harry Reid's idea of health care reform consists of 17 new taxes, buried in 2,000+ pages, which members are going to be given 34 hours to read. Might as well give them longer. They're not going to read it.
Therefore, his bill - which consists of raising revenues and which originates in the Senate - is by definition unconstitutional.
Don't expect to hear this from the mainstream media. I would be surprised if even Fox picks up on it. But don't expect for one minute that this will slow congress down.
They stopped paying attention to the Constitution a long time ago, considering it an impediment instead of the instruction manual.
