While in South Korea recently, no doubt apologizing for freeing
that country and keeping it free for the past half century, Obama was heard to say to
the troops: You're a pretty good photo-op. Disgusting? Revolting? Despicable? What word can adequately describe that comment?
And with that comment still fresh in our minds, Obama used the cadets at West Point for another photo-op, this one as backdrop for announcing what he's finally decided, after months of dithering, to do in Afghanistan. Aside: Can you imagine what the press would have done to Bush had he partied and traveled and took vacations and went on date nights and golfed, all the while leaving his commander on the ground hanging? Of course you can.
Chris-thrill-up-my-leg-Matthews has taken some heat from conservatives over his comment that West Point was "enemy territory" for Obama. Well, it is. No military installation is friendly territory for someone who has contempt for the military. This contempt was on breathtaking display when Obama announced that he was going to send another 30,000 people - some of whom were probably in that audience - to fight and die for the following strategy: We're getting out in 18 months, win, lose, or draw.
During
the Gulf War, I remember reporters asking stupid questions like: When
are the Marines going in? What time? Where are they going to land?
There's a reason that real leaders don't answer such questions, that we
send transmissions in code: the element of surprise. But here's
Obama, telling our enemy when we're planning on leaving. So, in the
meantime, why should they get themselves killed? Why not just sit back
and wait until The Big Satan is gone?
Obama wants to get the troops out right before he gears up to run for his second term. Like all lefties, Obama thinks people are stupid. He thinks that bringing the troops home will get him the love of America and that he'll coast to a second term because he ended the war. The only people who will love him for such a decision are the ones who already love him. Those of us who don't already love him aren't going to start loving him when we watch him abandon the people of Afghanistan to the bloody butchers of the taliban and al qaeda. We're Americans. We like to win, and we don't like quitters.
Unfortunately, it's not just live soldiers that Obama uses for his own benefit. The man who famously would not visit injured soldiers at Walter Reed because he couldn't bring a camera crew, recently took a camera crew with him to Dover Air Base in the wee small hours to film him saluting the coffins of our honored dead.
Disgusting? Revolting? Despicable? Pick a word. All of them aptly describe a man who uses the members of our military - live or dead - for nothing more than photo-ops.
