Veteran congressman Marion Berry (D-Ark.) is calling it quits. He is the 12th congressional democrat to do so.
He recounted that Obama gave no credibility to the pleas of Blue Dog democrats not to force them to support bills that were unpopular back home. In discussing health care, congressman were just told "how good it was going to be". In one such meeting, when the failure of Bill Clinton to get health care reform through came up, Obama said:
"Well, the big difference here and in '94 was you've got me. We're going to see how much difference that makes now."
Not a whole lot, apparently.
