Elizabeth Edwards, long-suffering wife of former senator John Edwards passed away the other day. As is usual in such cases, the remembrances of her far exceed the actuality of her.
When her husband again decided to run for president, he had already had an affair with a "staffer," which had produced a little girl. Mrs. Edwards knew this, yet she and her husband paraded themselves in public as the perfect couple. Always photographed holding hands. She was going to lose some weight so she could fit into her wedding dress, which she wanted to wear when they renewed their vows on their 30th anniversary. Blah. Blah. Blah.
As it has a nasty habit of doing, the truth came out. You'd think that two lawyers would have been smart enough to know that. And what happened when it did? The pathetic Mr. Edwards denied everything, including the paternity of his child and even famously commented that the affair happened while his wife's cancer was in remission. What a guy.
John Edwards is a slimeball, and his wife swallowed her pride and her self respect because she wanted to be in the White House. She was as grasping and avaricious as he was, and if they had to lie to the American people to get where
they wanted to go, then so be it.
