But None Dare Call Them Stupid

I read an article today by those who claim to be academics that calling our pets "pets" is insulting to them.  Really?  Did one of their cats or dogs say so?  The appropriate term is "companion animals".  "Owners" are henceforth to be known as "human carers."

The term "wildlife" is also insulting because "wildness" is synonymous with "uncivilized, unrestrained, and barbarous."  All wildlife should now be referred to as "free-living," "free-ranging," or "free-roaming."  Do these people really think that lions and tigers and bears (oh my!) give a darn what they're called?

Phrases such as "sly as a fox," "eat like a pig," or "drunk as a skunk" should also be avoided because "We shall not be able to think clearly unless we discipline ourselves to use less than partial adjectives in our exploration of animals and our moral relations with them."

You have so got to be kidding me.

On a related note, I watched a woman last night say that nature should be given the same rights as humans.  Air has the "right" to be clean.  Water has the "right" to be clean.  Being a liberal, of course, she has not taken into account how breathtakingly stupid such comments are.

If air has the same rights as me, what am I supposed to breathe?  If water has the same rights as me, what am I supposed to drink?  If the ground as the same rights as me, what am I supposed to walk on?

We have obviously reached the point where some people have taken complete leave of their senses and are incapable of understanding the simple fact that they're stupid.  They belong in institutions, not in classrooms.
