In the new Hawaii Five-O that debuted in 2010, we were told that Steve McGarrett's paternal grandfather died at Pearl Harbor, which was December 7, 1941. So, either Steve McGarrett's father John was already born at that time or was born soon after. Even if Grandma McGarrett had gotten pregnant the morning of the 7th, the minimum age her son could be at the time the show came on was 68.
Bill Sadler, the actor who plays John McGarrett was only 60 at that time.
In the new show Alcatraz which debuted last night, one of the lead characters is Emerson Hauser, played by Sam Neill. In a flashback to 1963, we see someone who is supposed to be a young Emerson Hauser, a guard at Alcatraz. Since that was 49 years ago, even if the young Mr. Hauser was only 20, which seems highly unlikely for a guard at a federal prison, then the Emerson Hauser of today would be 69.
Sam Neill is only 64.
The old show Cold Case was famous for this. And while it might seem like no big deal to most folks, it just drives me crazy. It indicates to me that the people who came up with these things weren't paying attention, and I hate that.
