An American dressed up as "Zombie Mohammed" and marched in a parade. A muslim man, raised to believe that it is a crime to insult Mohammed, attacked him and was arrested. At a hearing, Magistrate Mark Martin threw out all charges against him. It's not just what he did, but how and why.
He refused to admit the videotape of the incident into evidence and then claimed there wasn't enough evidence to sustain the charges. He lectured the victim on what muslims think and believe. He berated the victim, calling him a doofus. He said that the victim's actions were "offensive" and "way outside your boundaries or first amendment rights."
There is no indication whatsoever that he told the perpetrator that it is illegal in this country to attack people that you find offensive. There is no right in this country not to be offended. The victim was not outside his first amendment rights, and the judge knew it. Instead of upholding the Constitution, which he took an oath to do, Judge Martin shirked his responsibility and instead issued a ruling completely outside the law.
In 2010, a marital case came before Judge Joseph Charles (New Jersey), wherein the woman, a muslim, was asking for a protective order against her husband, also a muslim, claiming that he was beating and raping her. The husband stated, "This is according to our religion. She is my wife. I can do anything to her. The woman, she should submit and do anything I ask her to do."
Judge Charles refused to issue a protective order, saying that the man's actions were "consistent with his religious practices." In other words, American law didn't matter. The order was overturned by an appellate court that had not at that time decided that American law was subordinate to sharia law.
We've all heard about the practice of "honor" killings, i.e., a muslim man kills his daughter or wife. Is it going to take an American judge okaying that before we all wake up to the fact that men like Judge Martin and Judge Charles are a danger to this country.
