Feet of Clay

Four years ago, we were treated to the spectacle of a media run amok over a candidate.  The drooling adoration given to Barack Obama was unprecedented.

David Brooks could tell, just by "his perfectly creased" pants that Obama would be a "very good president."  Chris Matthews felt a "thrill up his leg" during one of Obama's speeches.  By the time we got to Evan Thomas' immortal comment, "he's sort of God", we knew we were in uncharted waters.  It seemed like the media was playing "can you top this" with their comments.  Historian Michael Beschloss had no hesitation whatsoever in proclaiming that Obama had the highest IQ of any man ever elected to the presidency, even though he had no idea what Obama's IQ is.  Obviously, no comment was over the top.

This mania had two inevitable results:  (1)  they inflated the already outsized ego of a man who became president of the United States without ever having really worked a day in his life; and (2) raising expectations for his presidency to an unattainable level.

Thousands of man hours were spent trying to dig up dirt on Sarah Palin, the justification being that McCain was old and would die in office, so it was necessary to find out everything there was to know on her.  Where was that curiosity with regard to the man actually running for the office.  Where were the questions regarding his gravitas.

We know for a fact that the media would have demanded to see a certified copy of any Republican's birth certificate if there was even the smallest possibility that he wasn't a natural born American.  In 2008, the senate approved a non-binding resolution that McCain was a natural-born citizen.  There was no such resolution regarding Obama because - gasp! - who would dare to question the citizenship of God.

We've seen the media go ape demanding Romney's tax returns.  Where was (and is) that same need to know with regard to Obama's college transcripts.  Where is the media outrage over Obama's numerous golf outings.  I distinctly remember Nancy Reagan being raked over the coals because she decided to replace the White House china, even though no public funds were used.  Where is the media outrage over Obama's weekly, taxpayer-funded parties.  Where is the media outrage when Michelle Obama simply cannot wait for her husband to return before she takes off for vacation, costing us tens of thousands of extra dollars.

There is only silence, and those who dare to say anything are labeled racists.

The man who said he would halve the deficit in his first term has enlarged that deficit to a previously unheard of level.  The man who said he could reach across the aisle to get things done, never even tried for bi-partisanship.  The man who said he would increase our standing in the world has stiffed our allies, and reduced our approval rating in the muslim world to half that of his predecessor.  The man who said that his very nomination would be the day the oceans stopped rising and the world began to heal itself has seen several incidents of Mother Nature's wrath wreak havoc in this country.

All in all, Obama has had one success in his presidency and that's because it was carried out by the Navy SEALS.

So where is that same adoring media now that it has been shown conclusively that Obama is, in fact, a mere mortal.  In the words of Barry Manilow "trying to get the feeling again."

After Obama's poor performance in the first debate between him and Romney, the media lefties were outraged because the unthinkable had happened:  Romney came to play and Obama just showed up.  Where was their superman.  Where was the man they had shilled for and covered for and slathered their devotion on.  Where was their god.

In no time at all, they were right there covering for him again, their excuses at the ready.  Debates don't mean anything . . . he hasn't had to debate in four years . . . he's got a day job, you know.

The grand poobah of journalism himself, Bob Woodward, said maybe “Something happened — maybe in foreign affairs, they got some intelligence report or something — who knows the things that can happen in a president’s life that distract him?”  Really.  Obama had no problem whatsoever flying off to a fundraiser and having a good time the day after he learned we had been attacked and our ambassador murdered.  Is that the best you can do, Bob.

Speaking of the terrorist attack of 9/11/12, where is the outrage from the media when it was reported that Obama had skipped every intelligence briefing the week before the attack and skipped the intelligence briefing the day after the attack.

Alas, there's never going to be any outrage.  The media has to continue to cover for their man because to do otherwise would be an admission that they were wrong.  They aren't only not going to apologize, they're going to double down.

The mainstream media surrendered what little remained of their objectivity and neutrality to put Obama in the White House.  A new media was born, and objectivity and neutrality were out-dated concepts.

And they didn't shed a single tear over the death of the fourth estate.
